Medical Manager - Oncology Pipeline

Location Macquarie Park, New South Wales, Australia Job ID R-244296 Date posted 28/01/2026

About the job

Join AstraZeneca’s Oncology Medical Affairs team to shape what enters Australia’s cancer care pipeline. As a Pipeline Medical Manager, you’ll lead pre‑registration feasibility and early market shaping across multiple indications, partnering with Market Access (PBS/HTA), Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, MSLs and Therapeutic Area leaders. This is a Sydney (Macquarie Park) head‑office, individual contributor role with high cross‑functional influence and direct exposure to senior leadership.

About AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines, primarily for the treatment of diseases in four therapy areas – Oncology; Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM); Respiratory & Immunology (R&I); and Rare Disease.

At AstraZeneca Australia, we have been working to deliver the best value to patients for more than 60 years, and we push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.

We are proud to have one of the broadest and deepest Oncology pipelines in the business, and we are working towards our big ambitions with entrepreneurial thinking and innovation.

What You’ll Do
As Medical Manager (Oncology Pipeline) based in Sydney, within Medical Affairs you'll lead Pipeline Oncology strategy—pre‑registration feasibility and market shaping across Oncology with executive visibility.

Responsibilities Include

  • Deliver feasibility assessments for new indications/compounds, synthesising clinician insights, competitive intelligence and market access factors to inform go/no‑go and prioritisation.
  • Shape pre‑registration strategy in line with the Medicines Australia Code; identify barriers/enablers to uptake and national launch readiness.
  • Align cross‑functional plans with the Pipeline CFT (brand team), Market Access, Regulatory Affairs and Commercial; present executive‑ready recommendations.
  • Build competitor landscapes and adoption scenarios for phase II/III programs; contribute to readiness planning for anticipated launches (2027+).

Essential For The Role

  • Demonstrated experience in Australian pharma with Oncology exposure and Medical Affairs experience (Medical Manager or senior MSL).
  • PBS/HTA literacy and experience contributing to or partnering on submissions; strong stakeholder influence without formal authority.
  • Structured problem solving, competitor mapping, insight synthesis and clear executive communication.
  • High learning agility and time management; comfortable rotating across indications rather than deep single‑TA specialisation.
  • Sydney‑based hybrid role (Macquarie Park); in‑person collaboration preferred

Desirable for the role

  • Postgraduate qualification (Master’s or PhD) or equivalent advanced scientific training.
  • Pre launch/launch experience in oncology.
  • Familiarity with the Australian oncology landscape.
  • Experience designing or overseeing RWE initiatives.
